Improve Balance to Increase Performance

Despite having learnt how to do all the standing postures on a wobble board...

balance is my biggest weakness.

All my life balance has been an issue for me.

It’s an inner ear thing, which is why I instantly feel sick on a playground roundabout or on a car ferry in choppy seas.

Typically as we age, we start losing balance, so I have a double whammy!

This is why I do a lot of balancing exercises. I find it hard work. It requires a lot of effort.

But here's the thing I have learnt ...

you must target all your efforts NOT on engaging the body but on relaxing the body.

To balance well, you have to let go of the tension.

When you’re struggling with anything in life, the by-product is body tension.

So we must focus a large amount of effort on NOT struggling.

I struggled for years doing Standing Bow pose...

as I targeted all my efforts on engaging the body in the postures.

I didn't focus that much on being relaxed, releasing tension.

This is because Bikram yoga is seen as the hard core of yoga. You’re not there to relax your there to push through your struggles, be they physical or mental.

I still hold onto the underlining principle that we are all here to forge a better path through life, and that does require a lot of effort.

However, it all depends on where you’re targeting your effort.

The facts are in all well-balanced movements in life, the body must be equally relaxed as it is engaged.

This means you must place 50% of your energy into being relaxed.

To do that, you have to rewire your neurological pathways so that your nervous system instinctively ensures the body is free from tension while it is simultaneously engaging the body in movement.

Then and only then will balance become a walk in the park.

With the biggest bonus being ...

your whole mind and body become more interconnected, working in perfect harmony with each other WITHOUT stress or tension...

and your movements become more powerful.

If you wish to explore this mindset and reprogram your nervous system...

to instinctively release tension and increase your performance in all yoga postures. You will find an engaging 37-minute self-paced online workshop on our website.
