Back Pain & Yoga

Have you ever wondered if your yoga practice was NOT helping your back pain?

Back pain is a highly complex neurological process.

Some experts say back pain is all based on physical body issues, while others say it’s all psychology, and others say it's a mix of both.

Physical or Psychologic back pain: The fix

No matter if your pain is physical or psychological, either way, the solution is always the same.

You have to retrain the nervous system to move the body with zero body TENSION while you explore your active flexibility.

Simply trying to improve passive flexibility typically makes back pain worse.

Active V Passive Flexibility

So what’s the difference between active and passive flexibility?

Passive flexibility is the range of motion a joint/spine can move into with assistance.

Active flexibility is the range of motion a joint can move into using pure inner strength without assistance.

Passive Camel Pose

For example, in Camel Pose, if your grab your feet behind, you create a ridged structure that assists spine extension, which is neurologically passive and is not a good idea if you have back pain.

Active Camel Pose

On the other hand, if you simply have the arm out to the side or up overhead when doing Camel pose, you create an active dynamic structure.

Applying an active mindset to all yoga postures is how you will fix your back pain.

You have to target equal effort on releasing body tension as on...

engaging your inner spinal muscles to extend open the spine with stability and control.

Doing this will not only heal & strengthen the body...

but also, your nervous system will learn how best to communicate with the body, so all your movements in life are tension free without back pain.

Imagine a nice open walking style or great Standing Bow pose WITHOUT the slightest hint of back pain, just pure inner relaxed power!
